You know, you and I are a lot alike. We’re the kind of people that are passionate about what we do; we’ve invested time, tears and sweat into our businesses. Some days are joyful, work feels like play and everything is just right. Some days are grueling, getting one more thing checked off a never ending list of to-dos, and sleep escapes us. For me, it’s often in those midnight hours that the best ideas come and keep me awake, thinking of how to make them a reality.
Spectacle Brand Design is one of those creative-insomnia fueled sparks. See, I started in the creative business world almost a decade ago, cobbling together a handmade clothing line. It started as a late night boredom whim. I was up past my children’s bedtime, the house was quiet, and my hands were itching for something to do. What began as a little experiment to burn off some creative energy became a full time gig. I literally had no idea what I was doing… I knew how to design and produce, but I had no clue how to get customers or how to present my work to the world. Late nights became even later nights as I scoured every resource I could get my hands on for the right information, and some reassurance that I was indeed on the right track.
Fast forward a few years and the brand I built became immensely successful. My work was featured on TV, in magazines and was even worn on the Hollywood red carpet. Every detail of my business, the making, the packaging, the customer service, the accounting, the marketing, was handled by one person… me. And I burned out. Hard. Like couldn’t get out of bed, never wanted to create anything ever again, ever. I had to walk away.
I learned so many valuable lessons from all this. Lessons I’m going to share with you. Some are really fantastic and I can’t wait to give you the secret. Some are really painful and shaming and I’m going to show you how to not make the same ones.
I’m going to show you how I transitioned from the world of fashion to the world of branding. I’m going to feed your plucky entrepreneurial spirit with inspired DIYs that will delight your customers, make your job easier and set you apart from the maddening crowd. I vow to help you develop YOUR brand, clarify how your customers see you and even how you see yourself. I’m going to be your proud cheerleader as you navigate the often choppy waters of your creative business. We’re going to be a great team. Onward!
